How ONDC is disrupting e-commerce

ONDC ( Open Network for Digital Commerce ) is completely changing the e-commerce industry. The government created ONDC hoping to reach a eureka phase like it came with UPI. Will ONDC reach the government's expectations, let's find out.

In India, more than 12 million people earn their livelihood by selling or selling products and services. However, only 1500 of them have enabled E-commerce. Most of these sellers are confused about e-commerce either because of a lack of knowledge of it or because of financial concerns. ONDC is the government's effort to create an opportunity for people who are otherwise unable to adopt e-commerce by not only supporting them financially but also giving monetary support to these people. ONDC aims to generate e-commerce accessible to all types of sellers helping them end to end.

The government introduced ONDC because of the dependence of people on giants like Amazon and Flipkart, ONDC serves as an opportunity for small sellers to reach their customer base and sell products at a much lower cost than their competitors. The introduction of ONDC also serves as a step to reduce foreign dependencies and follow the - "made in India route"

How Does ONDC Work

Ravi, types Assam tea in the bar, his request is transmitted through the ONDC network. Multiple tea sellers receive that query. Immediately Ravi finds several tea sellers on the front page of the website. there is a company called X which sells premium Assam tea, there is a company Y which produces affordable Assam tea. All these companies are small sellers based in a rural town in Assam, where they sell tea in their small shop, they started using ONDC to gain a wider customer base. Ravi can compare the prices and ratings of each tea seller along with their certification. Ravi selects X company and orders Assam tea. ONDC handles secure payment gateway, inventory management, and order tracking. A local courier integrated with ONDC delivers the tea to his doorstep

Growth

ONDC has reached the 50 million transaction mark in a short time, which is bonkers to hear. Namma Yatri dominates mobility orders. Top brands onboarded: Wow Momo, McDonald's, Domino's Pizza. Network growth includes sellers, participants, categories, and expanding city reach .
